Within the last few months you might have seen or heard the term “quiet firing” circulating on your local news stations, LinkedIn profiles, or social media accounts. The term refers to a method used by employers to drive employees to quit on their own volition. To discuss quiet firing more at length, this week I’m joined by Dr. Ella F. Washington, an organizational psychologist, DEI expert, and Professor of Practice at Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business. In Part 1 of our conversation we discuss how to identify if quiet firing is happening in your workplace, the psychological effects of being quietly fired, and how biases and a lack of managerial training in the workplace impact how managers give critical feedback to employees.
